Ras Al Khaimah lies about 1.5 hours from Dubai, but the rhythm is different: fewer skyscrapers, more open shoreline and mountains. It appeals to travellers who want to stay by the sea without spending every day in city traffic.

Dubai works well as a separate day trip: the drive from the resort areas to the centre takes about an hour and a half. This format combines a quiet beach holiday with shopping and sightseeing, then brings you back to a calmer hotel for the evening.

Al Marjan Island is a group of artificial islands with resort hotels, sandy beaches and views over the gulf. Most hotels stand on the first line, with pools, restaurants and their own stretch of beach.

Water entry varies from beach to beach: some have soft, gently sloping sand, while others have stones and wind-driven waves. Check the depth, lifeguards and reef shoes, especially when travelling with children.

Beyond Al Marjan Island, hotels are concentrated in Al Hamra, an area with a marina, golf course and beach, and in central Ras Al Khaimah near the corniche. Each option has its own logistics: shops and cafés are often a drive away from the resort zones.

When choosing a hotel, look beyond the star rating at the distance to the sea, meal plan, transfer and child policy. In high season family rooms and all inclusive hotels sell out early, so it is worth checking dates as soon as possible.

From October to April Ras Al Khaimah is comfortable: the air is warm, the sea stays good for swimming and excursions are not exhausting in the heat. Winter evenings can be cool and windy, so a light jacket is useful.

May to September is hot and humid, especially in the daytime; plan swimming and walks for the morning and evening. Jebel Jais is cooler than the coast, but even there summer can feel heavy.

Ras Al Khaimah has RKT airport, but direct flights from Almaty and Astana are not available in every season: the flight programme changes and some services run via hubs. It is often easier to fly to Dubai (DXB) or Sharjah (SHJ) and continue by transfer.

The drive from Dubai takes about 1.5 hours, and from Sharjah roughly 1–1.5 hours depending on the hotel and traffic. Confirm the transfer format: a shared bus waits for passengers, while a private car is faster but its price depends on dates and route.

Jebel Jais is the highest mountain in the UAE at about 1,900 metres. People come for the viewpoints, cooler air, zipline and mountain trails; in high season it can be windy and noticeably cooler than on the beach.

Beyond the mountains, the emirate is worth seeing for its mangroves, Dhayah Fort, the old town and Al Hamra Marina. A trip to Dubai takes a full day, so plan it in advance and confirm the transfer and return time.

Meal plans depend on the hotel: breakfast only, half board or all inclusive. There are few cafés outside the resorts in the hotel zones, while the centre offers more choice; if you do not plan to drive, eating at the hotel is usually more practical.

Families do well in hotels with a pool, kids club and gentle water entry. The budget depends on dates, hotel category, meal plan and excursions; plan separately for insurance, the transfer and any spending in Dubai if you add it to the itinerary.
