Koh Samui tours from Kazakhstan

Koh Samui is more compact than Phuket: you can drive round the whole island in a day, beaches are 15–30 minutes apart, and the infrastructure is concentrated in a few clear areas.

TripTech compares hotels in Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut, checks flights via Bangkok and the ferry from Surat Thani, prices the transfer and explains which months fit your holiday.

  • Koh Samui is a Thai island in the Gulf of Thailand with its own USM airport, the long beaches of Chaweng and Lamai and quieter Bophut.
  • Most travellers fly via Bangkok, or reach Surat Thani and cross by ferry; on the island you get around by car, scooter or songthaew.
  • The dry season runs from June to September, while October to December is wet — the opposite of Phuket. Prices depend on dates, hotel and season.

Why travellers choose Koh Samui

Koh Samui is Thailand's second-largest island after Phuket, but the pace is calmer. It is small: the airport is usually 15–30 minutes from any beach, and a ring road links the main areas.

There is less high-rise development and fewer big busy streets than on Phuket. Samui is chosen for the balance between facilities and island feel: restaurants and shops exist, yet evenings usually happen by the water.

Beaches and areas

Chaweng is the main beach with hotels, cafés and nightlife; it is long, but gets crowded in high season. Lamai is quieter and popular with families, and the granite rocks of Hin Ta Hin Yai sit at its southern end.

Bophut and Fisherman's Village offer restaurants, boutiques and an evening market; there are fewer clubs but plenty of places by the water. Maenam and Bang Po in the north are quieter, with views to Koh Phangan, though at low tide the sea can pull far from the shore.

Getting there: USM or the ferry

Samui has its own USM airport, served mainly by Bangkok Airways. There are usually no regular direct flights from Kazakhstan, so the route is built via Bangkok, sometimes with a low-cost flight to Don Mueang and a connection at Suvarnabhumi.

A cheaper option is a flight to Surat Thani, a bus to Donsak pier and a ferry to the island. The crossing takes about an hour and a half, and with transfers the journey fills most of a day, so plan it without haste.

Weather and season

The best months on Samui are June to September: less rain, a calmer sea and fewer people than Phuket's high season. The island stays warm all year, but the amount of rain changes noticeably from month to month.

October to December is the wettest stretch, with November the rainiest month: showers can last for hours and the sea turns rough. If your trip falls in this window, keep excursions flexible and choose a hotel with a good pool.

Food, markets and evenings

Samui does fish and seafood well, and evening markets and food courts make Thai food affordable. In Fisherman's Village a walking street market runs regularly with food, music and crafts.

Nightlife is concentrated in Chaweng: bars, clubs and beach parties. With children, Lamai, Bophut or the north of the island is calmer, with entertainment a short drive away.

Island trips and excursions

The most popular trips are Ang Thong National Marine Park with its lagoon and viewpoints, and neighbouring Koh Phangan. On Samui itself there is the Big Buddha, Na Muang waterfalls and mountain viewpoints.

Boat trips depend on the weather: in the windy season some are cancelled or moved. Check in advance whether the national park fee, lunch and hotel transfer are included.

Koh Samui with children and budget

With children, hotels in Lamai, Bophut and the north work well: it is quieter and the water entry is often gentler. In Chaweng choose a hotel with a pool and ask about depth at the shore, especially at low tide.

The budget depends on the season, beach, hotel category and meal plan. Factor in the connecting flight, transfer, insurance and excursions; in high season prices on the island are noticeably higher than in low season.
